The Course

A short course in Environmental Health Risk Assessment (EHRA) will be held from 14-18 July 2008 on the Gold Coast, south of Brisbane.

The course is jointly organised by the National Research Centre for Environmental Toxicology (EnTox), Queensland Health Forensic and Scientific Services (QHSS), University of the Sunshine Coast, Griffith University Australian School of Environmental Studies, Griffith University School of Public Health, the CRC for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment and the Australian Centre for Human Health Risk Assessment.

The course is aimed at increasing knowledge and awareness of environmental health issues and in developing and updating methodological skills in hazard identification, exposure assessment, dose-response relationships, risk characterisation and risk management.

Who Should Attend?

The Environmental Health Risk Assessment Course is of relevance to all who are working, teaching or researching in environmental health, health risk assessment or related fields. Thus the course is of relevance to practitioners and professionals from:

  • private industry
  • non-government organisations
  • local, state and federal government
  • educational and research institutes and consulting/advisory organisations

Course Content

The course consists of lectures, seminars, workshops and case studies as well as project work. Participants are expected to work in teams and undertake a hypothetical scenario based on a real-life solution.

Presenters

Course lectures and workshop coordinators will be drawn from both the health and academic sectors. Presenters include Paolo Ricci (University of San Fransisco), Des Connell, Glen Shaw (Griffith Univerity); Brian Priestly (Australian Centre for Human Health Risk Assessment); Michael R. Moore, Jack Ng (EnTox); Ann Neller (University of the Sunshine Coast) and Ross Sadler (QHFSS).

Course Cost

The cost of the course includes all materials, morning and afternoon teas, lunches and conference dinner. Accommodation is not included but a special discounted accommodation rate will be offered by Seaworld Nara Resort.

Early-bird registration (before 13 June) is $1500 ($1646.15 with GST for Australian delegates).
