Dr Janet Tang received her PhD in Environmental Science from the City University of Hong Kong in 2005 and was awarded the SETAC Europe Young Scientist Award in 2002. She also has Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Bachelor of Arts in Japanese from University of Queensland. She started her postdoctoral training at Entox in 2005 and undertook a career break between 2008 and 2010. She joined Entox again in 2011 and her current research involves development and application of bioanalytical tools for stormwater and recycled water quality assessment.

Research Interests

Dr Janet Tang is an environmental toxicologist and her research interests focus on in vivo and in vitro bioanalytical toxicity testing on environmental mixtures as well as development of new bioassay endpoints relevant to environmental monitoring. The current test battery running at Entox includes baseline toxicity, phytotoxicity, estrogenic effects, binding to Ah receptor, genotoxicity, acetylcholinesterase inhibition and reactive toxicity.

Selected Research Projects

  • Cities as Water Supply Catchments : Stormwater Assessment - Risks and Health
  • Urban Water Security Research Alliance : Bioassays and Risk Communication
  • Water Reuse Research Foundation : Development of Bio-Analytical Techniques to Assess the Potential Human Health Impacts of Recycled Water
