As Australia's National Research Centre for Environmental Toxicology, Entox strives to provide leading-edge science to improve human health through a healthy environment.With a focuson improving the health of people and that of the environment in which they live by:

  • generating new knowledge on the sources, fate, exposure, and effects of environmental contaminants and natural toxins in our environment;
  • using the knowledge gained to develop and apply improved tools and methodologies for assessing the risk caused to humans and the environment, and for minimisation of potential risk;
  • providing information that facilitates risk management through consultation, and in collaboration with stakeholders including regulators, communities and industry; and
  • providing education and training in environmental toxicology and risk assessment.


Entox provides a number of services to government and industry. These include:

  • Expert opinion and testimony.
  • Expert review of data.
  • Assessment & communication of environmental health risks.
  • Health Risk Assessments of contaminated sites, air, water and food.
  • Toxicity studies.
  • Bioavailability studies to provide data on actual uptake of contaminants.
  • Health risk assessment training.
  • Contract research.

Entox's research, consultancy and training activities reflect increasing demand for a "safe" environment, increasing recognition of potential liability for "unsafe" products or environment and increasing demand by government regulators for scientific data to substantiate regulatory controls and standards. Entox plays a key role in the Australian and International communities.
